16/2/2021 The Minister of Justice appreciates the promulgation of His Majesty the King of Bahrain the "Corrective Justice Law for Children"

His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, praised the issuance by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the beloved monarch of the country, may God protect him and protect him, the law of reformative justice for children and their protection from abuse after it was approved by the Shura Council and Parliament.

The Minister of Justice said that the new law constitutes an important development at the level of the correctional system for children, which aims to achieve restorative justice for children, and their care and protection from ill-treatment, and the best interests of the child shall take precedence in all judgments, decisions and procedures related to it, regardless of the authority that issues or directs them.

He stated that the law includes the development of additional and alternative reform measures that suit the needs of children for their rehabilitation and integration into society, by creating a supportive environment for the care of children and contributing to the evaluation of their behavior and their social reintegration by promoting shared responsibility with the family.

His Excellency expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Shura Council and Parliament for the great role they played in order to put the law into the advanced final version that it was issued, as well as the efforts made by the Ministry of Interior, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Public Prosecution and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, as well as the consultations that took place with community institutions. Civil society, especially the National Institution for Human Rights, appreciating the international experience that was sought, especially from the United Kingdom, as well as the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, which contributed to the advanced standards contained in the law in the field of restorative justice for the child and his protection from abuse.
