His Excellency Sheikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa, Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, may God protect him, has made important human rights achievements with the aim of strengthening the protection of human rights and ensuring the principle of accountability within the framework of Establishing the rule of law.
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Special Investigation Unit, the Minister of Justice said that the unit formed one of the national mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights, and reflected the development witnessed by the criminal justice system in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
His Excellency noted the holding of the conference "The Effective Role of National Bodies and Mechanisms in the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights", which is being held under the auspices of the Attorney General, Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al-Buainain, and organized by the Special Investigation Unit in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Institute of Judicial and Legal Studies, and with the participation of a number of judges and members of the The Public Prosecution Office of the Gulf Cooperation Council, heads and members of national bodies and mechanisms concerned with the protection of human rights, and in the presence of a number of national experts.
He stressed the importance of the conference topic, which sheds light on the national efforts exerted in the field of human rights protection, the stages of development of Bahraini legislation and its compliance with international conventions and standards, with a review of the effective role of national bodies and mechanisms in achieving criminal justice, and international experiences in dealing with crimes of torture and inhuman treatment.
